Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) is software that can be classified as both free software and open source software.That is, anyone is freely licensed to use, copy, study, and change the software in any way, and the source code is openly shared so that people are encouraged to voluntarily improve the design of the software.
The Directorate of Technical Education is partnering with the Spoken Tutorial Project, IITB to offer Software Training to teachers and students of Polytechnics and Engineering Colleges coming under the DTE. Training on many useful and popular software, for example, Linux, LibreOffice (Open Source alternative of MS Office), C, C++, Java, Python, PHP & MySQL, Blender (Open Source alternative for 3D Max, Maya), GIMP (open Source alternative for Photoshop) etc. are being offered. The official launch of this program was on 26th July, 2013, inaugurated by Dr. H. U. Talawar at Acharya Institute of Technology, Bangalore.
